A.G. Edwards' Business Continuity Preparation
A.G. Edwards is committed to protecting the interests of our clients and shareholders. Accordingly, in the event of a business disruption, we have a Business Continuity Plan reasonably designed to allow for the continued operation of critical business processes, such as executing client orders and providing clients access to their cash and securities. We prepare for business interruptions in part by:
- Maintaining back-up facilities in the St. Louis, New York and Chicago regions that are equipped to handle critical operations should our primary facilities be unavailable.
- Backing up critical data at secure off-site locations for use during a significant business interruption.
- Designating a crisis management team composed of senior-level management to activate and manage the recovery and communication processes.
We developed our plan by attempting to prepare for a worst-case scenario rather than focusing on specific events. We believe this approach provides the flexibility to respond to different types of events by letting us activate the entire plan or only portions of the plan as deemed necessary. The specific actions taken inevitably will depend on the nature and extent of the interruption.
The Business Continuity Plan is reviewed and approved by a designated senior executive on an annual basis and maintained by the business continuity department. In addition, we continually review our business continuity strategy to determine whether it meets our business objectives.
Although we have taken significant steps to implement a reasonable Business Continuity Plan, we cannot guarantee that business processes will always be available or recoverable should a significant business interruption strike. However, we believe our business continuity strategy sufficiently reduces the risks associated with possible business interruptions.
